How to redeem an Amazon gift card
Two minutes on the web or in the app — and one rule that decides everything: the card belongs to a single Amazon store.
Quick answer
Sign in on the Amazon store your card was issued for (amazon.com for a US card, amazon.co.uk for a UK card…), open Account & Lists → Gift cards → Redeem a gift card, enter the claim code and choose "Apply to your balance". The balance is then used automatically at checkout.

Sign in on the right store
Open the Amazon store printed on your order — amazon.com for a US card, amazon.de for a German one — and sign in to the account that should receive the balance.

Open "Redeem a gift card"
Go to Account & Lists → Gift cards → Redeem a gift card. On amazon.com the shortcut amazon.com/redeem opens the same page.

Enter the claim code
Paste the claim code from your email — the letters and digits matter, the dashes do not — and select "Apply to your balance".

Shop as usual
The amount appears on your gift card balance at once. At checkout Amazon uses it first and charges any difference to another payment method.

Menu labels vary slightly between countries and app versions; the path is the same.

Open your account
In the Amazon Shopping app, tap the profile icon, then Your Account → Gift card balance (or Gift cards).

Add the code
Tap "Redeem another gift card", then type or paste the claim code. For a printed card you can also scan it with the camera.

Apply it
Tap "Apply to your balance". The new balance is shown immediately and syncs with the website.
One card, one Amazon store
An Amazon gift card can only be redeemed on the store that issued it: a UK card works on amazon.co.uk, a French card on amazon.fr, and so on. Once redeemed, the balance cannot move to another country's store or to another account. Pick the store where the recipient actually shops before you buy.

If Amazon refuses the code
Wrong store
A message saying the card belongs to another Amazon site means you are signed in on the wrong store. Open the store named on your order and redeem there.
Account on hold
Amazon sometimes reviews new accounts whose first activity is a gift card. Follow the verification steps Amazon shows; the balance stays attached to your account.
Amazon gift card questions
Can I use an Amazon gift card on another country's Amazon site?
No. A card works only on the store it was issued for — an amazon.com card cannot be used on amazon.co.uk or amazon.de, and the balance cannot be transferred later.
Does Amazon accept Bitcoin?
Not at its own checkout. The usual way to spend crypto on Amazon is a gift card: buy the code with crypto, redeem it, and shop with the balance.
