The short answer
Food is the category where crypto pays out fastest: there is no shipping to wait for and no booking to plan, just a code, an account and dinner. Buy the gift card that matches the checkout you were going to use anyway, load the credit, order. The only decision worth thinking about is whether you buy the delivery app's card or the restaurant's own card — because that single choice decides whether the fees are covered, and fees on a delivered meal are not a rounding error.
The fee gap, which is what actually decides your card
Delivery is the category where the menu price and the final total drift furthest apart: delivery fee, service fee, small-order fee, then the tip. A delivery-app card is credit on the app itself, so it pays the whole total — DoorDash credit applies to the full order including delivery fees. A restaurant gift card is money at that restaurant, so it pays for the food and only at that restaurant's own checkout. The mistake this causes is common and expensive: a brand gift card cannot be entered as payment inside DoorDash, Uber Eats or Grubhub, because those marketplaces settle with the restaurant themselves and only accept their own credit. So the rule is short. Ordering through an app? Buy the app's card. Eating at the place, collecting, or ordering from the brand's own site or app? Buy the brand's card — and you skip the marketplace markup while you are at it.
Quick answers
Can I pay for DoorDash with Bitcoin?
Yes, through the card rather than at the checkout. You buy a DoorDash gift card with Bitcoin, redeem the code in the app, and the credit pays for your orders. DoorDash never handles crypto — it sees the gift balance it already supports. The same route works for Uber Eats, Grubhub and Wolt.
Does gift credit cover the delivery fee and the tip?
Delivery-app credit covers the order total including delivery fees. The tip is handled separately at checkout, so it is worth keeping a little balance back or leaving a payment method on file for it. A restaurant brand card is different: it pays for food at that restaurant and does not touch a marketplace's fees at all.
Can I use a restaurant gift card on DoorDash or Uber Eats?
No. Delivery marketplaces only accept their own credit, because they settle with the restaurant themselves rather than passing your payment through. A KFC or Chili's card is spent at KFC or Chili's — in store, on their site, or in their own app. Buy the app's card if the order is going through the app.
Which delivery app should I buy outside the United States?
Wolt for Finland, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Czechia and Japan; DoorDash for Canada and Australia; Uber for its covered markets, where the balance also pays for rides. Grubhub and Instacart are North American only, and Grubhub is strictly the United States.
Can I buy groceries with crypto?
Yes. Instacart credit shops from local supermarkets and big-box retailers across the US and Canada — availability depends on the ZIP code, not on the card. In Europe, Wolt Market credit does the same, and Wolt balance also covers pharmacy and retail deliveries in its markets.
Do I need an account or ID to buy the card?
No. Guest checkout asks for the email that should receive the code and nothing else, and there is no KYC step on our side. You will need an account with the food app or the restaurant itself to redeem the credit — that is their requirement, not ours.
Does the balance expire?
Delivery credit generally does not: DoorDash, Grubhub and Instacart balances do not expire under their standard US terms. Wolt codes carry at least 24 months of validity from issue, and Uber varies by market — US balances do not expire, UK and EU cards run 24 months or more.
What if the order costs more than my credit?
You pay the difference at the app's checkout with any method it accepts, and the credit is used first. Going the other way is fine too: credit that is larger than the order simply stays on the account for the next one, since none of these balances have to be spent in a single go.
Can I send it to someone else as a gift?
Yes — put their email address in at checkout and the code goes straight to them, or send it to yourself and forward it. Send the code rather than redeeming it first: once redeemed, the balance is locked to whichever account entered it and cannot be moved.
